Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 August 2026
This policy explains how TurnItOff processes personal data when you use our websites and apps at turnitoff.app. TurnItOff provides parental screen-limit tools for Android devices.
Who we are (data controller)
The data controller is Skillled Ltd (company number 15047813), registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 128 City Road, London, United Kingdom, EC1V 2NX.
Privacy questions: privacy@turnitoff.app. General support: support@turnitoff.app.
Roles
- Parent — the account holder who signs in (email or Google) and controls paired devices. The parent is typically the person with parental responsibility for the child who uses the device.
- Child device — a paired Android phone running the child app. The child is not the account holder; the parent configures limits. Device and usage data are processed so the parent can provide the service to their household.
What we collect
- Parent account: email, name and profile photo from Google sign-in (if used), account identifiers, subscription/trial status, and payment-related identifiers from Stripe or Google Play (we do not store full card numbers).
- Child device: app-generated device ID, push notification token (FCM), device label, battery level, lock/schedule status, hourly screen-on minutes (not per-app usage).
- Technical: data needed to send lock commands and keep devices in sync (via Supabase and Firebase Cloud Messaging).
What we do not collect
- We do not sell personal data to advertisers.
- We do not use marketing or tracking cookies on child devices.
- We do not build advertising profiles.
- We do not collect lists of installed applications.
- We do not collect location/GPS data.
- We do not send crash reports to third-party analytics services.
The child app may read which app is in the foreground on the device only to enforce the lock screen (e.g. block Settings). That information is not uploaded as an app list.
How we use data & legal bases
We use personal data to:
- Create and manage parent accounts and pair devices
- Apply screen pauses, schedules, and daily limits
- Show usage summaries to the parent
- Send push commands and keep devices in sync
- Process trials and subscriptions, and provide customer support
Depending on the activity, our legal bases under UK GDPR include:
- Contract — to provide the TurnItOff service you request (account, pairing, locks, schedules, usage charts).
- Legitimate interests — to secure the service, prevent abuse, and improve reliability, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
- Legal obligation — where we must keep records for tax, accounting, or regulatory reasons.
- Consent — for optional Google advertising measurement cookies on our parent-facing website and web dashboard.
Push tokens are used only to deliver lock/sync commands, not ads.
Cookies and advertising measurement
Our website uses a first-party tio_pricing cookie for up
to 24 hours to display an appropriate currency. This is a functional
cookie and is not used to track browsing activity.
We use the Google Ads base tag on the parent-facing website and web dashboard to understand whether our advertising is effective. Google Consent Mode denies advertising and analytics storage by default. Google measurement cookies are enabled only if you select Accept optional cookies in our consent banner. We keep advertising personalisation disabled.
If you accept optional cookies, we record a Google Ads conversion after a new parent account is successfully created. This event does not include names, email addresses, passwords or other account details, and it is protected against repeat reporting in the same browser.
If you consent, Google may process information such as browser and device details, IP address, pages visited, referral information and advertising click identifiers for advertising measurement. We do not install this website tag on child Android devices.
Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage. You can withdraw or change it at any time using the Cookie settings button. Rejecting optional cookies does not prevent you from using TurnItOff.
Phone state permission (child Android app)
On child devices, TurnItOff requests Android phone state permission
(READ_PHONE_STATE) only to detect call status
(ringing, in-call, idle) so lock protections can handle active calls
safely while protection remains enforced.
We do not use this permission to collect call logs, contacts, or phone numbers.
Retention & deletion
- Account and device records are kept while your parent account and paired devices exist.
- Hourly screen-time history is automatically deleted after 45 days.
- When you delete your parent account in the app, we remove associated devices and remaining usage data as described in the product, subject to any short period needed to complete deletion and any records we must keep by law (for example billing records).
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to data portability where applicable. To exercise these rights, email privacy@turnitoff.app. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK. See ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Processors & international transfers
We use service providers (processors) to operate TurnItOff, including:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
- Google — optional Google Sign-In; Firebase Cloud Messaging for push; Google Play for Android app distribution and subscriptions (when you subscribe via Play); and consent-based Google Ads measurement on the parent-facing website and web dashboard.
- Stripe — payment processing for web subscriptions.
Some providers may process data outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the provider’s standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms described in their terms.
